A Carousel of Horses This small doll is balanced to stand on her own. Cotton fabric body, wool stuffing. Wired fingers. Trapunto technique in the face to lift the nose. Features created with acrylic paint, pigma pen, Prisma color pencils. Lips, eyebrows, lids, flair of nostrils and fingernails hand stitched with Gutterman’s and Sulky thread. Highlight and shadow create depth. Hair is three colors of fine mohair yarn, sewn and twisted and into a sculptural form.

A dash of transformation in simple shapes like cylinders, cones and rectangles a complex structure emerges. I ladle in creative problem solving and a pinch of illusion and a sprinkle of fun and magic. Wool felt and natural items like pinecones, twigs and assorted acorn tops with a healthy dose  of fun and magic.

"A Pageant of Birds"

                                                         "  A Pageant of Birds" - Close up A spray of wool felt leaves, flowers and floral wire form a kind of crown around her face. Vintage lace slip under the dress, and vintage cotton bloomers. Arms are outstretched with wings that echo the image of the women in the Welty photograph. Fabric shoes replicate the pattern in the dress with very small silk ribbon flowers. She stands on a round base. Seed beads embellish felt border with gold thread stitching

                                                                A Pageant of Birds  Over skirt and wing shapes in the center of the over shirt,  has circular cut work backed with the Norwegian wool.  Small wool felt birds, leaves and seed beads create a three dimensional element. Border on the over skirt is vintage trim work. A spray of wool felt leaves, flowers and floral wire form a kind of crown around her face. Vintage lace slip under the dress, and vintage cotton bloomers. Arms are outstretched with wings that echo the image of the women in the Welty photograph.

Lips, eyebrows, lids, flair of nostrils and fingernails hand stitched with Gutterman’s and Sulky thread. Highlight and shadow create depth. Hair is  of fine dark charcoal mohair yarn, sewn and twisted and into a sculptural form.

Three kitties, a mouse and poodle, small flowers and leaves add a three dimensional and storytelling element to this doll. Vintage lace slip under the dress, and cotton checked bloomers. Tie silk shoes in a small geometric pattern peek out from under her skirt

The tall wool felt cone shaped hat has a combination of geometric and natural elements. Blossoms, birds and a bee create a sculptural composition sitting on her head.

The top of the hat has a birds nest made with tiny sticks and floral wire. A white flower and bee on either side of the hat. Doll holds wool felt flowers and a bee.

A wool felt mouse sits on top of the hat and more mice are scattered throughout the skirt. If the kitties are snoozing then the mice will come out to play.
