The Calico cat is Sparkle and she is reading Of Mice and Men. The mice  listening to the story are confused because there aren’t actually any mice  in the story. The gray French bulldog is my friend Lana’s dog Bella. Since  dogs like to chew on shoes, she has the ruby slipper in her mouth.

Gray kitty flying a kite is book club friend Terry’s cat Squeakers. The book that frequently is a target of banned book lists is The Kite Runner.

The Golden Retriever Cooper is my favorite dog to watch belonging to  another book club friend Dee. He makes friends with everyone so he  even made friends with the Wicked Witch’s flying monkey. The Wizard of  Oz shows up on banned book lists from time to time. The yellow brick Road runs throughout the composition in the skirt. My friend Nancy’s dog  Maggie looked a lot like Toto, so she is walking along the yellow brick road.

The girl is holding my book club friend Marie’s schnauzer Bella Grace  and she’s reading Fahrenheit 451. The hat is Alice in Wonderland to  represent the craziness of banning books. And Alice in Wonderland has  occasionally been on banned book lists.

“The Banned in Boston Book Club”     Christine Shively Benjamin I am very concerned about the efforts to ban books. My book club in Carson City is responsible for 90% of the pets that I have looked  after for the last 8 years or so. I have woven the two concepts  together for this piece. The girl is holding my book club friend Marie’s schnauzer Bella Grace  and she’s reading Fahrenheit 451. The hat is Alice in Wonderland to  represent the craziness of banning books. And Alice in Wonderland has  occasionally been on banned book lists.
